Talking

Advise needed

Well now thanks for the advsie your guys gave me weeks ago about someone asking me to host some porno site
I got another one asking

This time its about MP3....
the guy says that its legally uploaded and that he has permission from the bands in his country.... but when I asked for a sample, he gave me a Ripped version of a song from Boys2Men ( or Boyzone I don't remember )

Would linking to MP3s be illegal? I have not accepted him because he wanted 1000mb of space... which is almost 200 songs and imaging my bqndthrottle getting sucked if everyone starts downloading.....

I need some serious advise on this...

Thanks.

Hong Gao Qiang

Umm...he has permission from the band?
Can he fax this too you? Because if not, I wouldn't touch it.

The last thing you want is someone contacting you regarding a law suit. =)

I agree. One of our customers does do MP3's, but they are also on servers leased, not our hosting.

And they provide sites directly for bands. I would want to see his site to see what exactly he is doing.

What do you guys think?
Should I get him to fax or email me the documents?

Thanks

I would still have him fax or email the documents. There are many sites out there like that which are illegal.

If you offer servers, this might be a great opportunity though if he can provide the docs.

You will need a full written copy of the permission he has received in order to be safe yourself. Ensure that it is isn't a hoax, and you might even be better contacting one or two of the bands themselves and checking.

even if he shows you documents to prove that he has permissions for _all_ of the songs in his collection, what would prevent him from uploading illegally acquired songs _after_ you gave him his hosting account.

imo, it's quite dangerous.

Little late, but:

You have to tell them to fax you the doc rights
Contact the Group/Band/Artist
Create statement saying that the Group/Band/Artist approves the whole situation.
Fax or Email the form to Group/Band/Artist and tell them to sign it and fax it back 2u.
Also Contact the record company (of the Group/Band/Artist) and do the same.

I wouldnt risk it, if it is illegal and it gets shut down by trading standards / police, then they take down your other servers for checking.

This is a serious disturbance to your business
