    How to Monitor Server Uptime?

    Is there a website I can view which will tell me uptime statistics for a server, in a simple, easy to understand way?

    Thanks

    Also - ask the data centers if they host a server monitored by a 3rd party provider that you can geta public link to.

    SiteUptime is a good choice for what you want to do. We use Alertra for 3rd party monitoring although we have a internal monitor as well.

    i would also have to recommend alertra.com.

    they can page your cellphone or pager so you know when your site is down and not on the computer to check your e-mail.

    I have one of the promo accounts from hyperspin. It showed 1 hour of downtime on my site using 2 minute monitoring while siteuptime.com did not on its 30 minute monitoring. I believe they only check from one location so if they have issues themselves, it won't accurately report. That said, it is pretty cheap and I'd use them for more accounts if they used SMS.

    <edit>
    Actually according to their FAQ, they monitor from two locations in Texas and Singapore and my server logs confirm this. Too bad they test from theplanet (my server is tms on theplanet bw)
