Several people have been instant messaging me this week, not for friendly chat, but to advertise their services. I know for a fact that they have come from this website because WHT is the only forum I display my regular email/screen name.
I have one thing to say to the 10+ people who have instant messaged me: I no longer tollerate it. I don't have a screen name so you can spam me with your offers, I have it to communicate with people.
After being instant messaged, I usually ask what company they are with, which usually scares them off.
I wont list those who have messaged me or the companies they are with, however, if it does happen again, I wouldn't think twice about it.
Amen, skreid. And what makes it even worse is that there's really nothing that WHT can do about it, since AIM is a medium that iNet hasn't purchased (yet, who knows... maybe they have the guts and financing to do it, LOL!).
Best thing that I can suggest you do is to simply remove your AIM name from your WHT profile, or do what I do... put in "Ask me, first". Most people, if they want to get ahold of you will find other ways to contact you. The spammers don't even bother, all they care about is spamming as many people as quickly as possible.
Maybe you could log that stuff and just let the Mods know... perhaps there should be a rule about this? Mods... any comments?
I think this might be better served in the WHT Lounge, as well, or even in the questions forum.

Well now, don't get me wrong, I do hit that "Report this post to a Community Leader" quite often. It's just that sometimes I don't know if I'm doing the right thing... I mean... I could PM the person instead...
For those wondering, I believe it is a person from webtechtalk.com sending the messages. (this one). He has tried to get me to buy a few domains, including "WTT". I search WHT for webtechtalk but didn't find much refrence to the site, or "P9Support Ryan" (AIM name he has been IMing with).
Supporting Ryan: WebTechTalk.com Domain
Supporting Ryan: $25
Dev Web Svc: just $25?
Supporting Ryan: Yes
Dev Web Svc: who are u
Supporting Ryan: I'm WebHostSupport from yaXay
Dev Web Svc: and why are u contacting me
Supporting Ryan: To wonder if you would be interested in purchasing the domain.
Dev Web Svc: wouldn't i tell u if i were
Supporting Ryan: I haven't posted it no where for sale..so..
Dev Web Svc: then post it, this is the second time you IMed me regarding this... it's nothing less than spamming
