This should have been considered a user level job ? Any reason why you cannot do it yourself as since you did say it is a simple job which would only take 5 minutes to do. Why wait for someone else to do when you are supposed to do it yourself ?

    how big is this database?

I think angelnetworkz is not responsible for this, they only update kernel etc.

    Well, that's a... valid... excuse...

We are talking about a dedicated server here, right ? If that is the case, you should have root access to the machine and with that, you most definitely could do anything and everything from there. Basically you have the same access as with AngelNetworkz to the server. If they can do it then there is no reason why you cannot do it unless you are trying to say you do not know how to do it and that in itself would be a valid response or if you do not actually have a dedicated server.

If there is a max upload timeout, you should be able to modify the configuration to allow a greater time frame.

I don't think angel networkz is here to blame. They are suffering from growth sickness. Also your request is very low in the pile. What would you rather do? Spend time fixing a broken server whos been offline for 20 hours or do the database thing? I'm sure they would fix it in the end.

I tend to concur, offering full management on that many servers is bound to cause some bottlenecks

Phoebs I ve replied my answer in PM
The reason i said it because we have few clients who have servers with angelnetwork. And they do praise them as well and 2 of them mention that AngelNetwork will provide fully managed and everything....

you could even do it "manually" with phpmyadmin (cut the file in smaller pieces or paste/execute 100-200 lines/commands each time)...

Sorry for butting in and this is not going to help..

I think its not a good thing to tell your clients your problem with your your upstream.

Clients want solutions.. not hear your problems.

This is ridiculous. How can you blame a hosting company because you couldn't load a database. If at all your customers are facing any problem, it is due to your incompetence and definitely not due to AN. If you don't know how to handle a database, hire someone who can do it for you. Fully managed doesn't mean that they will even create your website. Even if AN had promised to help you on this, they must be going out of the way to do it. You cannot blame them for this.

  21. #21
I guess some people just dont know what does a manged server means!

Wow if AN is gonna help this guy I am gonna take a server from them and every problem I get PHP code, MySQL etc I am gonna give it to them to solve it

Actually a TRUE FULLY Managed provider WILL do all these for you.
    Example is
ServInt yes they will create website for you.
RackSpace yes they will create website for you.
Prohoster (before sold to carpathia may be still now) They will literaly not only create website but also create Emails , Mysql , IMporting DB , Moving sites , fixing minor db even Script debugging (upto an extent) they will do.

server4sale: Thanks. I didn't know that. I always thought "Fully Managed" shouldn't be taken literally and it is mainly upgrades and security patch installation. Thanks for the info.

  24. #24
server4sale sorry for my earlier post, But I again I thought AN did not do all those stuff, and using mysql basic commands he could have restored the db easily.

Thats part of Basic Management or Semi managed. Where all patches are done by Data center. Like nocster have. However i do know that AN DOES go out of the way to help there clients. Basically most of the company will make sure your server is up and running and patched. Like AN does, It is an added bonus to get server from Good reseller like Angelnetwork if you are going with managed.com. Most good resellers do try to help each of there client to an extant where it looks like you are getting fully managed services. Hey it only takes 1 min to create a site and 1 min to import db.. From client's perspective who donot know how to do it could be 2 hr job Clients wont be angry if its a BIG Mess... However they will become upset on small things like this. Thats how things go. AN is providing excellent services for the price. However there are times where things get overloaded. Unless client is paying $300+/mo donot expect to fix the problem right away.... If they do it right away its a Curtousy not a MUST

Well ... the definition of fully managed is different to different people. If someone says they will fully manage my server I would ask them what that includes.

To me - fully managed is they take care of the technical issues I may not know how to fix or would just prefer not to. I would want them to make sure my server is relatively secure or to setup my DNS for me - but wouldn't expect them to create users in CPanel or submit sites to search engines let alone create a website for me.

FYI fully managed does not mean we'll create a website etc for you (neither will the ones mentioned above other than a generic site that you need to mod to add your own data etc).

We do try to help clients with anything we can do and while we won't build a site some ppl do need help with things like mySQL imports etc which we try to do.

The delay in this case wasn't "overgrowth" or anything like that, not even emergencies like down servers. It was assigned to a specific staff member who was going to take care of it but had an accident an hour or so before he was supposed to do it. This required a week off for him but I didn't find out till about 9 hours after he was supposed to do it.

When I did I assigned another staff member to handle it and it was made top priority.

i dot agree with what dona said about full managed servers.

creating websites for clients and looking after them is just a bluff
