I know this long, but please do not shorten until i have gotten a few decent answers to my question.
I would like to have full control over my domain name to prevent a hosting company from stealing it. As mentioned above I am listed as the registrant but not as the "Technical Contact."
Would this play a role and limit my having sole control over my domain?
I want to be able to switch hosts and DNS control whenever needed instead of having to wait and consult my host's admin and support team... and wait for weeks and months before getting a response.
Technical Contact doesn't matter for domain transfers. Find yourself a new registrar, open and account, and initiate a transfer. Make sure the domain isn't locked. I also wouldn't use anyone who has a drams site because you will not have full control as you stated above.
Thanks again... Who would you suggest? How is namecheap.com/ ?
Does anyone know if they are any good? Also, my registrar is with dotregistrar.com, and I don't have an account with that domain registrar. What do you all suggest?

How can you check to see if the domain is locked?
What is a drams site?
