Yes, upload to your web space, install it by something like this:
    yoursite.com/forum/install.php

If you are looking for free ones, there is phpbb and I think invisionboard used to be free as well (I am not sure if this is still the case). They are both quite good but vbulletin is generally better. Of course, vbulletin is also fairly pricey.

I would reccomend phpBB, it is free and easy to use, and if your webhost has fantastico installed you can have it auto installed through cPanel.

With todays world I think it comes down to a matter or choice and personal preference.

I like phpbb, you like invision, others like vbulletin, etc.....

    Thumbs up

We use UBBThreads (excellent but at a price) Invision and phpbb.
Overall for most of my clients I really like phpbb. It's free, there's lots of free skins, fairly easy to customize, lots of free mods, good discussion forums for help, etc.
The board of choice for my customer's sites.
For the high-power, feature packed, easy to admin, paid category of forums I went with UBBThreads and have really liked it.

I have to agree with you on this one, I hate when people say one sucks, when they could never come up with something.

    You can try
    www.phpbb.com (my choice)
www.invisionboard.com (it's free, just takes time to find, it's called the free trial version, but it's for an unlimited number of years.)
    www.xmbforum.com (small and lightweight)
    CloudRck.com - Host on Cloudrck
