I suppose I should start out with the usual disclaimers. First, my site. Second, I have not been asked to post this.
I have been with Real Web Host (who is a member here under RWH) since February of this year. Since then, I have been thrilled with their service and would recommend it to others. While I know enough to run a website, I will not claim to know enough to manage my own server and have probably asked them some dumb questions. Anyway, I am not a complete newb when it comes to hosting.
Because I donít feel like writing in paragraph form today, I am just going to make a list of things I have liked about them and my comments.
They offer support by phone (though I have never used it), MSN/ICQ/AIM, forums, and e-mail. When contacted, they usually respond within a couple minutes (the fastest they have ever responded was about 20 seconds to a forum post).
They are willing (and able) to be flexible and make changes to your account. In my case, they installed mod_throttle and removed Urchin (which I think uses up more disk space than it is worth) from my account at no charge.
They offer a variety (six shared) of plans that should suit most people.
A member of the Better Business Bureau. Yes, I know this is no guarantee, but it is better than them not being a member and shows that they have made the effort.
They are able to do custom scripting and installs at a reasonable cost. In my case it was an install of Bugzilla which requires root access and a handful of Perl modules to be installed.
The servers (though I can only vouch for the server I am installed on) are not some POS Celeron setup with insane load averages (Perl is either a dual or quad Xeon setup). The server load on Perl (which is what I am on) is always below .45 whenever I have checked it.
-see server load information
Someone is often on at late (midnight -6GMT) and available to help. I think I got Bugzilla installed at about 1am.
Any server issues are generally mentioned in a post on the forums so we know what is going on.
So, what are my gripes? The only gripe I can think of is the cost of additional space, $15/gb, which I believe (and I could be wrong) to be rather high. I also am not the biggest fan of their website layout, but that is probably just me. Other than that, I donít have anything negative to say. I have never had any issues serious enough that I needed to contact them by phone or submit a support ticket.
I have to say, they load a little slower than my provider (which is super fast altho its on a Dual not a Quad). Sounds like a good host by your description, if anyone looking for a stable host take a look.

Can I know your host?
As I am looking for an ideal host...
