Registerfly help required (getting desperate now!)
I'm sorry if this is stupid question, but I can't seem to get any help from Registerfly support (I'm fed up with waiting now!).
Can anyone tell me how to configure my domain so that I can still access my e-mail hosted by Registerfly (big mistake!) PLUS have access to my website on a different host (thank god!).
I thought the simplest way would be to use URL forwarding, maintaining the DNS settings for the e-mail, but this doesn't seem to work.
Can anyone please help me, I'm so fed up with trying to get this figured out now
just point your WWW and domain.com record to the hosting IP and keep MX record pointed to registerfly to keep it working.
Use RegisterFly's DNS for hosting and just have them URL forward to your website. This is what I do with a few sites I have hosted with them
Yep, that's exactly what I tried about a week ago now and it's still not working! It's so frustrating!
At least I know I'm not going nuts and it should work using the URL forwarding!
Maybe I'll try the route suggest by Bashar!
Thanks both - I'll keep persevering
If you check the email they provide when you signup they give you the advanced settings you need to make to make it work. Takes a couple of minutes to do via advanced settings
On the Regfly email plan. If you have problems with unreliability, tell them to move your email hosting to another server.
When I first got the email plan using Squirrel mail, it was absolutely terrible. Uptime about 2%.
I put in a trouble ticket and they moved me to another server ( a plesk with Horde this time) and now it works flawlessly. Great control panel and haven't noticed any downtime at all.
fewcoin - thanks for the advice, I have had a few issues with the e-mail being down!
dmaven - you said in one of your posts that you have them URL forward, do you mean they have to set up the forwarding? I've looked at the e-mail they sent, but still can't figure out how to do URL forwarding
I've finally had a response from Registerfly support and they suggested the same as Bashar - only problem is I don't want to pay for a dedicated IP from my host (trying to keep the costs down!!), so URL forwarding would be the best route ..... But I just can't set the thing up to work!
I'm sorry if I'm being stupid here, this is my first domain name so I'm no expert in all this!!
you dont need dedicated IP todo this.
just use the IP (shared IP fro virtual host) that your hosting provider used and point it to it.
it should work just fine, they call it virtual hosting to use one IP with so many hosting accounts.
Oh ok - I didn't realise that (see ..... told you I'm no expert!!!!
I'll give it a try, failing that I'll e-mail support!!
Thanks to all of you for your help
