web hosting: xfluro, netrillium, estarr, hosteuphoria
has anyone had any experience with xfluro.net ? their plan looks good.
other then that, i'm also looking into netrillium and perhaps estarr, but maybe netrillium.
hosteuphoria looks good, but i've heard bad experiences with this host, and apparantly some immature 13 year old owns it? can anyone confirm this?
any other web hosting companies to suggest? i'm looking in to paying no more than $5 a month for 100MB or more. i could do with more space, but 100mb would do. AND somewhere where i can get a free domain for a yearly plan!
i'm also torn between linux and windows. i know estarr uses windows and netrillium uses linux....
You may have already found a host by now, but I'll put in my two cents anyway.
I was with E-Starr for two years with virtually no problems. My site was almost always up, their support was almost instantaneous (over e-mail; I never used instant messaging), and other than my package going up by about a dollar with no warning, the prices were very reasonable.
Except that, in June, they completely deleted my entire account and all the files on my domain with no warning.
Since they had been sending me reminder e-mails, I could remember to go to PayPal and send in the payments. But they stopped sending reminder e-mails around May, and when my payment for the May-June bill was 30 days late, they deleted everything, with no warning e-mail whatsoever. I know it's not their job to send me reminder e-mails to pay for my domain, but they should have at least warned me before they deleted everything on my domain (some things I didn't have back-up for; my fault, but I would have if they'd forewarned me that it was about to disappear!).
So, if you go with E-Starr, they're a great company, just remember to back-up everything you upload.
I've had numerous problems with Xfluro, and they eventually gave me free hosting as an apology. I've been with them for about a month and they have overloaded the files on my account and the mysql databases have been down at least 3 times.
xFluro had two servers earlier. and exqui.net and an xfluro.net one. Most people who registered earlier were on exqui.net and that server apparently was pretty bad. But after the host had changed the exqui.net server later on it has been great actually. No downtimes for me ever since then. So I'll still recommend it.
