Well on our main site we charge $5 a month. But its more of a donation thing I guess and is not limited to forum members. But as a subscription anything less is not worth it if monthly I think. Due to transaction fees.
Yeah it is. Well we don't have it hooked up. See I built wotr a few years ago and I just admin the finances/advertising now.
The webmaster has upgraded to vb3 but since only about 20% I think of the subscribers are forum members I doubt we will integrate it.
Currrently we just use 2co and paypal. Then activate the user group manually in the forum if they are a forum member. The rest get added to a mailing list so they get subscriber competitions etc.
But on our new non-Tolkien site we are integrating the whole thing. In fact you actually join the site not the forum. With that we will be using VB's sub program. So I will have to get a worldpay account if no one brings out a 2co addon for vb. THough our programmer might write one I guess.
2CO has worked fine for us. They spot frauds very quickly, same with mistakes. Like one woman donated $20000 to us instead of $20 :-) I would do a search on here for 2Checkout though as some folks have problems with them.
But, if you have a fan type site make sure you take paypal.
Oh, I also recommend exporting data to something like excell or Peachtree so you can track it all if you are handling lots of them. Helps with accounting etc.
