You wouldn't be able to say xyzhost has the "fastest" servers because there's so many factors involved, your location would make a difference for a start.
If you look for an established host that uses a decent network and are not expecting the world for a few dollars a month then you'll be ok. A host with servers in the same country as most of your traffic will be coming from would usually also be an advantage.

It makes a pretty big difference if your hosting company is located on a different continent because the data has to flow through transatlantic lines beneath the ocean to a country far far away. Basically what Iím trying to say is it takes a few extra hops to get there.
