well, security is all on the admin, if you do not keep up with security compormises will happen. If you really want a secure server hire a company to do it. the search feature on the forums is a good tool
FDCservers has very good prices but their bandwidth providers leave a bit to be desired (XO, YIPES, Cogent). If you don't need it for a large scale hosting operation, I'd say take a shot. But at this point in time, I would not feel comfortable with their services for a server that needs to online 24/7 without trouble.

Be very careful if you think a "managed server" translates into a daily security mission for a server.
Most managed server providers that touch (key word) on security, typically will provide updates upon request (which often include your specifying what to update).
Some of the higher ended providers will sell you a firewall.
However, security is not a firewal.
Security is not a /tmp partition that will not allow executables.
Security is a way of life whereby some responsible party maintains as many layers of security that can be comfortable maintained (and make sense) as well as managed through out (key word) each and every day.
Most of the time you have to have in-house staff or an outside administrator handle this area.
you should go for a FULLY managed dedicated server, or unmanaged dedicated server and hire an admin.
high security != 100% secure, but it's the best thing you can do
