Thumbs down ServerMatrix - slow network?

I have server in ServerMatrix on 10 mbps connection, but actually my download speed is about 1-2 mbps.
You can test download this file:
    http://67.18.82.232/test.file.gz

What download speed you will get?

I tried to contact SM, but did not received normal reply...

I think SM put too many clients on one connection switch - that is the reason of so slow download speeds from my server.

Does anyone have any ideas - what could be another reason of such speed from my server?

It is already more than month - this slow speed is not accident - it is constant connection for my server....

I'm getting about 20kb/sec there too.

Try to download this file from our servers. Does it got just as slow? I can download from our server just fine.

    http://cp02.vertihost.com/files/testfile.bin

It could also be a problem with your network card configuration. We had one server with EV1 a while back, but we couldnt pull more than 50kb/sec max on it. It tooks the EV1 techs 4 days to find out that it was misconfig in the network card after they swaped the chassis twice and tried about 10 different network cables.

My server usage is very little - total banwidth used for this server is under 300 gb/month less then 1 mbs.

I know that many other servers at SM have normal speeds, but my server has this problem.

Upload speeds are ok, I get normal 10 mbps on uploads, only downloads are so slow....

Ask them to check your network config. I very much doubt SM would put THAT many servers on a link to end up saturating it that much.

If it were your switch, we would see major packet loss and latency in getting to your box, which I don't see.

Grabbing that file from another SM server, here is what I got:

    --19:52:19-- http://67.18.82.232/test.file.gz
    => `test.file.gz'
    Connecting to 67.18.82.232:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
    Length: 14,114,816 [text/plain]

    100%[========================================================================================>] 14,114,816 341.71K/s ETA 00:00
Maybe open up a ticket in Orbit and have them check the server out. No one here is really going to be able to fix your problem.

    Good luck!

I just got 130kb/sec trying to grab http://67.18.82.232/test.file.gz from a Dinix server.

By contrast I pulled 1.11 MB/sec on the http://cp02.vertihost.com/files/testfile.bin file.

I also pulled 1.11 MB/sec on a file on my ServerMatrix server, from a Dinix server.

Can't say I have ever experienced slow d/l speeds like that on my ServerMatrix box either... I'd be curious to see what tech support finds.

I agree, SM rarely has 'problems' like these with their network.

I'm sure if you submit a ticket in Orbit or give them a call, all will be fixed to your liking.

    netstat -in

    and

    ifconfig -a

Do you see any sort of collisions or errors? And also is your NIC running at Half Duplex or Full Duplex for the media options.

I think it could have something to do with your Ethernet card being set to half-duplex/full-duplex try changing the configs.

SM almost killed my site with that yesterday - I am currently in the process of moving a cluster of web/db servers to total control.

I then pointed dyndns to the new TC webserver which used the old DB servers from SM - a previous ping told me 0.5ms avg which was acceptable for 250 sql req / sec

It went OK for 1-2 hours then mysql cried "too many connections!" - they seam to have some internal delays from time to time... a ping can sometimes take up to 10ms or more and I guess that's what killed my connection -> people started hitting "refresh" -> death circle.
