Registering the ISP's email address as the domain owner's email addy...not a serio...
Some hosting companies register their own email address as the domain owner's email address. By not providing any support or any way to contact them at the same time, neither by phone, email, fax or whatever they make it impossible to transfer the domain name to another ISP, forcing the customer to stay. What do you do when you get a customer who wants to transfer his domain name and can't because some nice people do business the freaky way ??
Contact the registrar. If the domain is the name of the company, sometimes all it takes it a letter on letterhead. I know we had to do that once for a company a few years ago. Sometimes the registrar will work with you if it is pretty obvious at happened.
Well I always recommend registering the domain through the registar yourself rather then putting the hosting company in the middle. In any case, they should get in touch with the host/isp and ask them to transfer the domain details to themselves.

Normally what I do is to ask the owner to email the hosting co. If they refuse, then email the registrar , telling them of the situation. Normally the registrar will help to change the details or give the domain password to the owner.
