Will you pay the top dollar for the top hosting?
Often, well.. routinely there are negative reviews of web hosts because they didn't supply what the customer paid for. But as the customer, would you invest more to get more?
Instead of a $10 web hosting account, would you rather pay an extra $10 if the web host takes true accountability for your business presence and provides top-notch performance?

Yes, we do. We could host our sites for about $200 but we pay many times more that for good hardware, support etc.
Learned the costly lesson when we started, costs you more in the end if you go too cheap.

Yes. I went cheap for years. The "sweat" spot for me was around $25 dollars per month for what I needed.
It does little good to have a $10 host and your host be down for hours at a time... when you count the lost sales over those hours, you quickly realize you need uptime! When I moved host, I started making more money because the host was always up... I've lived in both worlds.... If you only have a family site, no you don't need a $20 host unless you simply want to pay more. I guess, it depends on what you want to do on the net, and what it will cost you to get there....

Those voting no, would you care to explain your reason?

The reason I might vote no is because the most expensive doesn't always mean the best, and if something does go wrong you are out a lot more money. I think you have to take into account not only price but other factors. If I feel it is worth it to me to pay the extra I would, but if I felt comfortable with a cheaper host then I would have no problem with that either...

I would have to agree.
Also, is this hosting companies voting or the people because it really wouldnt be 2 effect if the hosts were voting. =)

I tried to gear my questioning to just the consumer market and not the web hosts, but it can be perceived for both if the web host is a reseller (therefore making the web host a consumer as well).

I'm from the people side I don't have a lot of money but $2.95 a month hosting is really embarrassing; I like the real stuff. If hosting were cars, I'd want the chevy stingray and not the volkswagen beetle.
Maybe that's a bad example, there are probably a lot of old vw lovers here, plus I own one.

It really depends. I would definitely pay $10 more if it meant better reliability, support, etc. But like hometownhosting said, more money doesn't mean better service.

Well I like to think that is true. But sadly every hosting experience I have had has been that more money has meant better service. Maybe just me though...

I've been hosting with both high and low-priced hosts. For my personal and light-traffic sites - I didn't notice big differences on hardware and network performance, server load had been great, and they all had good uptime.
On the support side, the more expensive big-boys sometimes are less personal and friendly and they have to follow rigid rules, while low cost small companies usually handled my requests faster and more flexibly.
IMHO, different type of customers should expect differently from their hosts. For serious businesses, they certainly need 24/7 realtime phone support and little space for big bucks; for me, I am happy with my cheap host who give me lots of disks and bandwidth with respectable service.
So, my answer is NO.

I agree More does not mean better, I do realize what the post says "if the web host takes true accountability for your business presence and provides top-notch performance?" But biggest problem is you dont know til you pay and try.
Before I went dedicated I tried High, moderate and low cost reseller ( and single domain hosting) with mixed results sometimes the little guy was better with support sometimes the big guy blew me off completly and yet some of all types gave Great service.. But bottom line .. I Didnt know what I was getting til it was got.
