I have an extremely powerful server at servermatrix.
I have noticed that sometimes the response time is very slow. I have a 100 Mbps uplink and when the server is responding it just load the page in a matter of 1-2 seconds. But, sometimes, after I press a link, nothing happens even after 7-8 seconds (the page is not even starting to load). Then I press the same link again and the page is loading instantly in 1-2 seconds.
What can be wrong here?
The server load average is slow, and I have tested this problem with both static and dinamic pages. The same problem from time to time.
It might be you. If you have high latency to your server then it will cause the server to run slow to you. The other thing could be that you have configured apache wrong or some thing to that matter...
Compare your location with the Texas location and maybe do some ping tests to see if you have any packet loss.

(adjust the size as needed, after running for a week see how much of the query cache has been used, but 16MB is a good place to start). With your query rate (72/second) you will see a major improvement immediately after restarting MySQL. You have quite a lot of spare memory, so keeping most used queries in the cache is a must-do.
You can also disable or reduce timeouts for KeepAlive, it will reduce the number of http childs.
Also think about installing some PHP caching system, like Zend or Turck MMCache, if you have not done so yet.
I know there is no such thing as optimal, but I would like to hear your opinion about finetuning my server. It is a Dual Xeon with 1.5 GB RAM, IDE HDD, Apache 2+, MySQL 3.23.58.
I have tried many httpd.conf and my.cnf configuration and nothing helps.
Your advises are appreciated.
PS: Mods, can you move this thread to Technical Forum? It is more like a technical post... Thanks.
Eddy, my ping results are extremely constant. Around 180 - 200 msec.
If it is an issue of latency is there anything we can do? Also, if it is an issue of latency I should experience the same problem while accessing ServerMatrix's site also, right?
