    Savvis/C&W

I'm just wondering what everyone's experience has been with Savvis/C&W since the buy out. I know C&W was top-of-the-line before that, but has anything changed? How is Savvis doing at managing the larger network? Is either network better or worse than it was before? I'm looking for people with experience with this, not just people who have heard things...

    karl,

There has been several threads about this same topic. I suggest that you use the search and find them. I highly doubt people experiences have changed over the last 3 weeks.

Personally, I've been removed from the sceen for a few months, but from what I hear from people who still use them, things are just the same as they used to be.

I'm not just hearing things BTW I still have my personal mail and web servers located in NJ1. I dealt with Exodus / CW / Savvis for over 3 years.

Aha, must have missed that post, I had searched and only seemed to find ones from about when the buy out first occurred, thanks for pointing me to that one.

All things running smooth - only issues so far is that they limit each rack to 12 power ports and that there is a $245/hour fee for any type of service other than reboots (which I understand, they are in the colo biz, not managed servers)

    Anywho, everything else is excellent.

PS - An interesting note, check out:
    http://www.internetpulse.net
    - Savvis is the only provider on that page to be constantly under a 30ms - except for cogent which I'm pretty sure is a cogent issue. Savvis also has the fastest inter-network speed of about 17ms.

We have a ton of our services and primary routes through these guys and scared as hell when the purchase went through. (We are at a total of over 60+ cabinets with them)

Honestly though: The amazing service, got even better. Whenever you call support or anything, there isn't even a machine that fields calls, it goes directly to a tech who knows what he/she is talking about. Worries have been put to rest and we plan on growing our commitments with them on an ongoing basis.

I think this is what you will hear from almost all their customers.

Oh yeah a couple of tips: They also have 21 port power (RPC-27a I think) available for a slightly higher setup fee) and that $245 / hr is negotiable.

We are using Cable & Wireless here in the Netherlands as one of our main transit uplinks and I must say that we are very happy with them, great uptime, fast routes, etc.

Well.... yes and no... C&W and Savvis have split up the old C&W network in two ASes but they still have a direct peering with eachother.
But you are right it changed a bit, we now have an extra AS hop for the Savvis routes.

    I.e.

traceroute to www.digitalprinceton.net (209.67.24.214), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets
    1 wd-noc.M160.core.RTD.we-dare.net (217.148.160.101) 0.388 ms 0.366 ms 0.321 ms

    8 digitalprinceton.net (209.67.24.214) 79.153 ms 79.289 ms 78.945 ms

(digitalprinceton.net was used for illustration purposes only cause I know they are a direct Savvis customer )
