    a BT tracker question

I'm thinking about setting up a BT tracker for a small group of people(~500) to exchange data internally.

It will be a php tracker, about <50 active torrents at a time, 150 users max, with small number of files in each torrent.

What kind of server is needed to handle such traffic? will a small tracker like this take a lot of process power?

Assuming no copyright problem + hosted in Canada.

If this question is too broad, what other information do I need to provide?

Thank you very much for helping...

Well, I'll admit that I had NO idea what you meant by "BT Tracker." But a little Googling, and I came up with this: http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/guide.html

If you have seen that already, or if its too basic, I apologize. But I if not, I thought it might help you some...

    Thanks for the help

I've read that page, but it was too complicated on the hosting side...
I want to setup a simple php tracker that requires less, if not none, such modifications on the server. Not 100% sure yet until I have a chance to set it up, but the readme of the php tracker tells me it's quite simple...

I see now there's another thread running just down the list about BT Trackers. (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...hreadid=226861) It seems there are some questions in regards to legalities. In which case, you may have trouble finding a host willing to host such an application...

    Good luck!

yeah, I saw that one too...
but no mentioning on how many users... I guess the poster already had experience with setting up a tracker...

maybe this is not the best place to ask... seems like most hosts are seeing BT as illegal right off the bat...

    That would be true...
