What do I need besides a Web hosting, Web design, and merchant account to start a bus
I want to start my own adult site, but I have no idea on what I should do besides finding a hosting company, a web designing company, and a merchant account. Can anyone please give me some advise. So far I only got the source of the DVD I want to sell. There are way to many web hosting, designing, and merchant account out there. I have no idea which one I should pick. Do I need a physical address to start my e-business?? Can anyone who has an online store help me out??
Own adult site - make sure you have a reliable source to maintain your records. If you are in the United States you will need to comply with Federal Labeling and Record-Keeping Law (also known as 18 U.S.C. 2257) - review this law, learn it & live it.
If it is a DVD & only DVDs you are selling & no downloadable content, the merchant account might be a lot easier & cheaper. Visa might still require you to register with them as a high risk merchant - which is about $2,000.
Once you review, 18 U.S.C. 2257 - you will see you do need a physical address for the Custodian of Records if you have your own models. If you get the images from someone else - make sure they are reputable, else you might end up going to jail.
You might also want to check out http://www.internext-expo.com/ - the next convention will be in Hollywood FL in August. Here you will learn a lot about that type of business.
Are you in this business??
I want to know if you can recommand me some hosting company, web designing company, merchant account company that are willing to do this kind of business. Also is there anything I need to watch out for??
From my computer science teacher, I found out that Unix is more reliable so I am think about a Unix server. However, I don't know much about Unix though . I am thinking about hiring someone making a site for me. I am learning frontpage right now and hoping that I will be able to modify the content on my page whenever I want to. So many ideas on how to make my site better . Anyways, I think I need a windows server since thats like the only OS I am familiar with . So much to learn yet so little time and so much school work. I really think I went to the wrond major. I thought if I study CS I would be able to build my own web page. But I have to learn how to use front page on my own .

I am indeed only wanting to sell DVDs at first. But I am thinking about streaming later. Not now though!! Sorry for asking these dumb questions!! but what is ASP, ASPX, and HTML?? What are there differeces?? I went visit a site that end with .ASPX but when I view the source code it sayd HTML and I was able to use those code in frontpage. Should I keep on learning frontpage??
By the way is it possible for me to leave my email or phone number here??
Well having your own server - you are responsible for it. You can get another company to maintain it though & pay them to maintain it. Having a shared server - you might share that server with 50 other clients or as much as 2,000 like Ipowerweb does.
ASP is classic asp - mainly used on Windows server to communicate with MS Access or MSSQL database. It is a server side language & is processed on the server before hitting the client's browser. ASPX is .NET - a new version of ASP basically & the same concept. When you view source code from .NET or ASP - you are viewing code that as already been processed. You are not actually seeing the real source code.
You need to learn HTML - no ifs, ands, or buts about it. FP will help you learn it.
