do you run a large vBulletin forum on servermatrix.com? Input
We have decided to go with servermatrix.com
My question is, do any of you run your vBulletin forums on a servermatrix.com server? I am mainly looking for feedback of users who run a larger vBulletin forum, e.g. 50-100 users online at the same time.
How is the performance?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry, English is not my native language.
When you say your forum just "humsss"..do you mean it is slow or fast?

Hey guys, I'm a representative of a major internet forum, and we're planning on moving to a new server. However, we're in such a poor state right now (sysadmin of our box is totally absent) that we don't even know the specs of the current machine the forum is running on. We may be able to find out, but it's not guaranteed that we will be able to before the timeframe that we have to move.
As such, I need some advice on what spec machine would be able to handle our database load (as the current box is woefully inadequate during peak times).
We have 11,000 registered members. ~500 (with significant growth potential) simultaneous users accessing vb3 (and we can disable some features, like searches, if necessary). No other stuff running (the main site is on a different box).
What's the bare minimum dedicated server spec? What would you guys recommend?
We're not for profit, so our cashflow is by *no* means infinite.

To check the specs of your machine type cat /proc/cpuinfo. Also I am sure you could fine a good sysadmin on these forums
hm what should I put in my sig?

We don't have ANY real access to the machine outside of vb control panel access. It's a black box. Our sysadmin was exterior to our operations and has been absent for the last 6 months.
That's why I'm looking at some recommendations on specs for the new box; we're pretty much in the dark on the current one.

Network performance should not be an issue. As for real performance, it depends on which hardware configuration you select. Like a Dual Xeon Server would outperform a Celeron based server when comparing load.
For something as intensive as a forum, you may want to up the RAM to something between 1 to 2gb.http://www.batchimage.com - Offering Batch Image Processing and TIFF/PDF Software Solutions

chino,
50-100 users at the same time is not a lot, even a Celeron/512 Mb server would handle that without any problem. So anything above it which fits your budgets should be fine.
EviLore,
for just a database server P4 2.8 with 1 gb RAM would handle this load. But you can put both the webserver and the database server on the same box, then a dual Xeon with 1-2 Gb would do the job easily.

I have a VB forum that has had as many as 400 simultaneous users. Currently I am on a dual 1.1 GHZ server with 2GB RAM. My normal peak loads are between 2 and 3. I am about to move the site to the Planet and I plan to get a dual processor (2.8 I think) server with 2 GB of Ram. I am hoping this server will give me plenty of room to grow.
Growth is key. Are you growing fast? If so, get a server that is going to be able to handle your growth over the next 6 months to a year. Moving these big forums isn't easy so its best to get a solution that will last you a while.

My vBulletin averages 250 users online most of the day/night.
I have the P4 2.8 from SM with 1GB ram, running mod_gzip and MMCache.
Never had a problem with the loads.
Here is top with 224 people online right now:PHP Code:20:04:50 up 15 days, 16 min, 1 user, load average: 0.10, 0.24, 0.24

I've had 200 users on at a time at my forums on the low end 1and1 box works great. I suggest getting a more powerful server though, thats just all I can get right now

Chino,
I run a VB forum similar to your size (50-100 users online) and have no problems with my P1.8 w/ 512 ram.
