Baseline Hosting Requirements
Just trying to figure out what you guys feel is needed for a bare bones hosting offer.
We'll say the price is $10 per month, and DOES NOT include unlimited anything.
What would you say the plan needed to include in order to be attractive to the customer?
Disk Space?
Php?
My SQL?
POST AWAY!

I would say for disk space at least 250MB, PHP supported, MySQL like a 10MB database included. Also it would need like 10 POP email accounts, and have a good support backing. Probably like 10GB of Bandwidth.

For that price, I think you can reasonably expect 5 to 10 gb of transfer. Some reputable hosts do offer more transfer - you just have to ask around

Cool cool.
Now
Would you adjust that offer and pricing depending on whether or not you will provide phone support?

I think for $10.00 a month you should get the following:
1000MB
100 Emails (though no one really needs more than 5)
50GB Bandwidth (Not many new webmasters need that much)
PHP, mySQL, and CGI-bin
If you really want to compete to get business, you would need to lower the price or increase the offers because there are popular, successful hosting companies already out there.

price isn't everything... if you provide top notch support, you won't have to go overboard on the bandwidth.

Actually, being the cheapest host shouldn't be your strong point unless you have the advantage of high volumes (hundreds of thousands of websites, your own datacenter etc.). If you just rent a server or colocate you'd better focus on high quality service and use prices that cover your costs (all costs, not just getting the server) + give you a profit.
What HostSpecs is referring to is overselling, which is very tricky and should be done only by experienced hosts with lots of customers (IMHO).
