I'm running a card game server and need top notch network.
Low ping is not required but any downtime of more than 60 seconds is likely to kill games. With my current provider , it happens 3 or 4 times per week and people complain. This can be considered as a good performance for serving web pages, but not in my case.
Also, 90% of my customers are in Europe, so good connectivity to Europe is required.
- I need Windows 2003 server standard
- I don't need it managed, I'm rather experienced with it
- I need 200 Gb/mo of bandwidth
- I can go up to $300/mo
Here is the result of my first investigations:
-rackspace.co.uk: offer with 100 Gb/mo and 3 GBP per addditional Gb (killing)
-gyron.net: network looks good (100% SLA), but requires a yearly contract; i can't take that risk without trying it for at least 2 months
A european provider would be my first choice but it looks that either 200 Gb/month is out of price, or too cheap for a trustable network.
rackspace.com: i got offer in my price range
I'm also considering theplanet and tranxactglobal which both have good appreciations here.
I have also probably missed some others.
What's your advice?
RackSpace is definetely the company of choice when it comes to very high end customized solutions. If you need a better network without such high pricing, I enjoy The Planet although their support lacks. NAC is quite good although still a budget provider. Honestly TP I don't think is your best bet. You would be in their new datacenter which only has a single transport line. If that line is cut, the entire network of the new dc is down until whenever it's fixed. Kind of "nocster'ish" which is NOT good. In conclusion, I'd go with rackspace above all...
