A long read alright, so I wouldn't be bothered. But you are right; that's awesome.

    Link doesn't work.

Anyways, I read the info on http://www.mannequin3d.com/powerbook/ and what happens at the end?

At the end of that page, it says they're just waiting for the scammer to respond.

    This is hillarious.

I've just spent ages reading through the actua forum post at that something awful site, but as soon as I hit page 20 or so it tells me I need to pay to register before I can view any more of the posts.

Is anyone a member there that can log in and check the last posts and see if there's an update?

The link to the thread at the SA site is at the bottom of the http://www.mannequin3d.com/powerbook/ page.

That's probably one of the funniest things I've seen online. Definately a great idea, I'll have to keep that one in mind for future reference.

That was a great read. I sold a few laptops on Ebay last year and got at least 20 of these attempted scams.

I take it the scammer didn't see the funny side of things?

Looks like www.p-p-p-powerbook.com is getting hammered. I can't access the site at all. I think it's on a GearHost server. Bah - I bet they think it's a DDOS.

I can just imagine the scammers reaction when he thought he pulled off the scam, only to discover that he was scammed himself. Imagine his expression when he opened the package to find the p-p-p-powerbook, instead of the real powerbook, and after he paid the custom levy too!

I would pay hard cold cash for a nice .avi of him opening the package and the next 5 minutes after. Shoot the scammer could make his money back if he posted this avi with a paypal link to download it "see how I reacted to this only $5" crap I'd probably pay to see it!

Yeah we do host that site but after getting attacked with DDoS we had to remove it. It's not that we think it's one, it is. Level3 investigating it as it's peaked their border routers over 30% than normal and there getting ready to use UUNET to block it.

    A "think" ... I think not.
