move my phpbb to another domain
i need to move my phpbb board to a new domain
right now it is part of a website on a different domain but i need to move it to a new domain and it will be the only thing on that domain so probably ill want it in the main directory
how do i do the actual transfer and also how to i change the domain?
and how do i transfer/redirect the traffic from the old domain
can i set up a 404.shtml just on the old directory, but not the entire site itself?
thanksif you haven't considered chapter 7 bankruptcy, maybe you should.

LaurenStephens its easy, install another copy of phpBB on the second domain. (use fantastico if a regular install is to hard )
make a DB backup from your first install and restore it on the second one, then setup a redirect from the URL where the first phpBB install is to the second one.
This will result in users going to your forum being redirected to the newer domain with an identical forum there.
go here: http://www.phpbb.com/support/tutorials/ << tutorials donated by vito of demodemo. watch the "Backing up and restoring databases" one.
and your all done, should take more then half an hour.IWDN - Really smart web developers... and me!

Depends how many mods you've done, I've got a heavily (over 25 mods) modded phpBB board so when I move it I just manually backup the database in CPanel and via the phpBB control panel, then copy all the files across and restore the database at the new location.
Depends on your situation I guess!

I've done this many times using the backup feature in cPanel, after doing a home backup and db backup upload them on your new site. The only tricky part is you need to setup the db user and password.

Oh, you are not moving the domain name also?
Your new host will probably not want to move the forum off your old host for legal reasons.
Doing backup using cPanel is so easy, I'm sure you'll find it very simple.9/11 Memorial, do you have a story to tell?

Just copy the folder to loca, upload to new domain. Make a mysql backup of the forum, run in phpmyadmin and your set to go.

phpmyadmin should be a link in your cPanel MySQL

You're going to have to re-setup the users in the MySQL database - you kind find your password and username details in the config.php file in your phpBB root directory if you can't remember the details.

phpBB is a forum, it uses PHP to work... and it stores its information (username/passwords/topics 'etc) in a database. all clear so far?
in the admin panel of phpBB you have an option to make a backup of that database, download it.
install another forum on your new domain and import that backup.
all usernames/passwords/posts 'etc will be recreated.
is that so hard to understand? go here: http://www.phpbb.com/support/tutorials/ and watch "Backing up and restoring databases" to see exactly how to backup and restore the DBs.
here (direct link): http://www.phpbb.com/support/tutoria...2_admin_backup
your almost done, now that you have a copy of the forum on the new domain you want to setup a redirect, so people who used to go to the old location of the forum will get to the new one instead. (on the new domain)
if you can read and understand english you can do this. come on already!IWDN - Really smart web developers... and me!
