whats the impact if i disable ping and traceroute?


any major impact? Does it helps to ward off ping attacks?

no, it just removes those options from your users cpanel

Do you mean disable it by firewalling ICMP? or just disabling it in WHM?

It'll help a little in "ping attacks" but ping attacks are 1998 style.

something like that... i am not using WHM/Cpanel anymore.

what do u mean by 1998 style? I started using the internet only ard 1999

I mean, the Denial of Service attacks now days are much more sophisticated than a simple ping flood or something of the sort...

The only thing disabling that is going to block are the ICMP bombs of yester-year. Basically put that if you disabling those services to thwart DoS attacks then you are not going to be taking the best actions.

Well that option basically is to disallow your clients to use the traceroute function from their Cpanel.

Nick is totally off the mark. To protect against ddos attacks (ping variety) you need to install a firewall and not just tweak that setting.

anyway i already got ipfw installed on my freeBSD server... only open ports for those i need.

just only wondering whether i should disable ping and traceroute
