It may be only gateway or both...I'm interesting in learning all I can, as I'm still learning about this subject, and I have to educate others about this topic as well (who are not techies etc.).
My interest in Verisign comes from knowing that they offer fraud protection tools, and I want to be able to answer questions about this, and other posts on this board complain that Authorize.net and LinkPoint are not necessarily so strong on this. I know Auth.net's FraudScreen is available, but not necessarily how good it is.
For the site I'm working on, I don't anticipate huge volumes, transaction amounts, etc., but I do want to know as much as I can, and to take reasonable precautions.
I have a good initial handle on the basics of cc processing, but I still have a lot to learn. My agency already has a MOTO account with our bank, though I don't presently know any of its details, and the bank has not been real helpful yet.
It also might be worthwhile just to take the orders and process them by hand with their manual push-button gateway terminal (but that requires storing/sending a credit card #), since I'm only expecting 0-5 Internet transactions/day.
On the other hand, a 'real' online cc processing facility may make the site more 'trustworthy'...
