That's just the kind of thing I have no idea about, thus my need for a full service host.
To be a tad more helpful, right now I have just a handful of sites, that all together maybe pull a couple gig of bandwidth a month at the most. Not precisely sure of that, but in that general ballpark.
I need usual stuff like PERL, and perhaps access to mySQL. An ideal host would have experts on hand that I could hire at an extra fee. For instance, I don't use mySQL, except on one site, because I don't have anyone who can repair it when it goes down.
Happy to provide a better answer if I know better what you mean by server requirements.
1and1 was the first lead I checked out. Took them 3 days to reply to my sales enquiry, and no demo of control panel or stats. Reviews have been mixed, which is perhaps always the case. Still on my list, but continuing to shop.
2nd try was rackspace. I tried them briefly a few years ago. Great support, but no demos or pricing on the site. And I don't think they really have the kind of solution I'm looking for. They definitely didn't the last time I tried them.
Anglelnetworkz looks interesting, thanks for the tip. Nice clean sales pages, with demos and pricing easily accessible. Not sure why everyone doesn't make demos and pricing available. It's such a competitive market, how can they survive without demos and pricing on their sites? Anyway, will investigate the angelnetwork, appreciate it.
There are folk who offer exactly what you are after, but AFAIK not at the price range you indicate (for which you would typically get a reasonably good quality semi-managed US-based server).
For that price, you may be better sourcing a low-cost server and hiring admin services as and when you need -- for example to get you completely set up in the first place (tricky if you have never done it) and be on hand to help thereafter. You won't get quite the "I don't have to even think about it" service but you may be able to stay within budget.
