    photoshop - software

    currently i have ps5.0 (i know, i know)

im thinking of getting the newest version but my concern is that i may not like it.

if i install the newer version, is it going to overwrite my older version? or will it be a separate piece of software?

It will be seperate, However I don't know how the older version will be affected if shared files are overwritten.

You should be able to save it into a different folder and then they will work independantly. I don't use Photoshop, but I have Paintshop pro 5 and 7 in different folders and as I don't like change either, I tend to use the older one more.

There are some features, like shadow manipulation in the newer versions. As suggested, install in some other folder and it will work fine. Nevertheless if you try editing files made with one version with the lower one, you'll permanently lose some effects. I did that by mistake a few times...damn

I used pshop 5.5 FOREVER, then decided to try 7.0 (I hated 6).. it was an odd adjustment.. but I do like it much more. (5.0 doesn't have history either, does it?)

nothing will save your life like the history tab.

I don't use any of that crap.. the way I slice is I put guides on the layout.. and just flatten the image and copy / paste it into new images... that's how I've been doing it since.. forever

get ps7... there's a slight chance you might have to overwrite shared files - and ultimately lose your precious 5.0 but it's worth it now...

if you're like me, and hated 6 (tested) you might like 7.0 more.. also has SOME vector capabilities.. but what do I know, I'm just a programmer .
