How much linux should you know to start using semi-managed servers?
how much linux do you currently know? Myself I have only used 3 different Linux Operating systems: Fedora Core, Mandrake Linux, and Knoppix. I am still pretty new. How much should I know about how linux operates before I go dedicated?

To be more specific, there are three types of "Unix" like operating systems. SYSV, BSD, and Linux. SYSV and BSD are versions that have the same roots while Linux is a relative newcomer. Each OS has it's strengths and weaknesses. Linux and BSD are the most popular because they run on cheap hardware, SYSV systems are usually run on more expensive platforms.
