Heh, do they have a "Consumer Report" on webhosters?

    If not, they need one

Me neither. Are you refering to a specialised websites/organisation?

I think they are refering to something like Consumer Reports
They state that we need a big 3rd party organization to honestly review hosts.

    Greetings:

While I agree it would be an awesome tool, there are supposedly 10,000 to 15,000 hosting providers in just the U.S.

So chances are very high that if Consumer Reports did a report, they would focus on only a handful of companies.

While those companies selected by Consumer Reports probably deserve to be selected, there would be countless others -- good and bad -- who would not be in the report.

    Thank you.

The barrier to entry on something like VCRs is high enough that CR only needs to deal with, at most, a couple dozen companies. Several people have tried to build review sites for web hosts and game server providers. The free-form style of WHT and other forums addresses the changing market much better.
Game Servers are the next hot market!
Slim margins, heavy support, fickle customers, and moronic suppliers!

    Huh?

WHT represents only a fraction of the market; and, while I'm here often, I am glad it is only a fraction of the market <smile>.

    Thank you.

I didn't say it covered the whole market, or even covered the market well. Just better. You have a much better chance of finding a candid review with a "what do you know about ... host?" post here than hunting around on a hosting review site.

A few years ago, CR did an article, (I can't remember the title), but it was something to the effect of "Top 50 Helpful Web Sites".
GoDaddy.com was listed as #1 Place to Register a Domain at the time. Don't know if they've done another one since.
