Running windows apps on a Linux box?

This sounds crazy I know, but I really need to know the answer

I have a custom coded visual basic application which I need to be able to run from a dedicated server. My initial idea was just to use a Windows 2003 dedicated server with VNC/Remote desktop to access the program.

If I use a linux dedicated server, would I be able to run the application using WINE ( and then some sort of VNC to run the application through that?

Please let me know if this is possible

I think you'll have a hell of a time trying to do that. If I were you I would either go with a windows box or re-write this program in C, Perl, or Python.

Yes you could indeed do this.
It wouldnt be very hard to try out either.

From a redhat installation simply install X windows.
You can log in via a remote X client or VNC and you have
    a GUI desktop.

Fire up wine and see if your program runs..
Wine doesnt work with everything but its worth a shot.
