Space on a dedicated server to display your website globally by domain name and address. Generally this fits the needs of most small to mid-sized businesses.
Your own server housed and maintained 24/7 with other servers in a secure facility.
One server capable of storing and serving thousands of websites with different names and addresses. Generally used by large companies wishing to store and serve large amounts of information to thousands of users at the same time.
You buy large account on dedicated server with a purpose of reselling the hosting service
Obviously you are after the "best deal" you can find... Which is fine - But, if you choose an unlimited host, or a host with packages like those above - may I offer the following advise (if you choose not to follow this advise, thats fine, but - Im just doing my part here)
- Dont pay anything more then 1 month in advance
- Keep regular backups
- Have a few other options handy to switch to if (when) required.
Going for the cheapest solution is not necessarily a bad idea - you just have to understand the risks and be prepared to deal with companies disappearing, regular downtime, bad server performance, etc...
Once the situation gets to apoint youre not happy, juts move on to the next...
I would never recommend this for a business owner that relies on their site - but, if youre just hosting a personal site, and youre not too concerned about downtime, or long term viability of a company - this is a good option - you can find some great deals out there, and just move on to another host when/if things go bad...
