This Athlon XP 3000+ vs. P4 3.06 GHz might help although the benchmarks are all under Windows. Im assuming you will be using this as a server and using Linux; so they really wont help.
Well, just try to apply the benchmarks,[AIM]: BhAaD99 :: [ICQ]: 79048062 :: [MSN/eMail]: lad_b@hotmail.com

for the $20 a month difference in price I'd probably go with the 3000+, but then again, I'm a very cheap bastard.

The 3.0 P4 is based upon the NorthWood-C core. Which has Hyper-Threading, along with 800 mhz FSB. So in result of that I would definately spend the extra $20 and for the P4

I think the most important question is, what exactly are you planning to be doing with this server?

AMD has proven that HyperThreading isn't as big as a factor as most people think. There are plenty examples of AMD processors outperforming, or matching the performance of their Intel HyperThreading counterparts.

You'll get about equal performance out of both, so go with the cheaper model.

I personally would take AMD but having 2 virtual CPUs would impress your client more

I don't know of too many clients that even know how to check the type/number of cpu(s) in a server

If you use jailroot, your clients cant really check anything.

I would definately place the extra $20 on the P4.
