    Review: UH-Hosting

Here is my two month review of UH-Hosting.co.uk
It is organized into categories to make it easy to read.

UH-Hosting offers all sorts of accounts, shared Windows, shared with PHP, resellers, shell accounts, dedicated servers, etc. I signed up for the "Resell1" account, for 12 a month (around $21 USD at time of writing).

First of all, i'd like to say that my stay with UH-Hosting was very good. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being best, i'd give UH-Hosting a 7.

    Reliability
During the two months, a program I use recorded 15 minutes of downtime. This isn't too bad, although it was in peak time. Also note that the program only checked once every 15 minutes, so this downtime could of been smaller than 15 minutes. At worse case scenario, that's around 99.8% uptime for two months, which is definately acceptable.

    Speed
Overall speed was good, it was very speedy on my 56k modem, and had very good speed with a 512k ADSL line. Unfortunately I havent tested it on anything faster (like the extremely fast broadband link at work). Note: They are in a UK-based datacentre, and I tested in the UK.

    Support
Although a little slow at times, support was good. It normally took anything inbetween 3 to 30 hours for a reply, but the support given was accurate. They do have an IRC channel too, but I only visited it once- it was really overcrowded and I found e-mail (ticket system) to be the best way of contacting them.

    Problems or Bad Bits
Cancelling your account is a nightmare. I e-mailed twice and both remained unanswered. Using the ModernBill control panel they use to track billing, there seemed to be no cancellation option. In the end I had to cancel the payments directly with WorldPay.

    Overall verdict
I would say my stay with UH-Hosting was a good one, and it is a good company. I would also like to mention that around a year ago I used to have a very cheap ASP account with them, which I cancelled due to one of my websites dying off, and no use for an ASP account in general (got bored of programming in ASP you could say, i now use PHP). Since I came back after I left a year ago, that has to be a good thing. I think if you are looking to create a UK-based website, then you should definately consider UH-Hosting

That's a very good review, a properly done one.

You are not just saying what you think but also why.
It looks accurate and unbiased, and most of all
I wish all reviews, either good or bad, were as this one.

As for UH, most of us know that they are one of the best one here at WHT, with the some of the best reviews.
They only problem happened recently moving servers. Nothing else apart from that.
As far as support is concerned I thought they were quicker than what's stated above, but it could be due to the problem I mentioned therefore only temporary.

    Bye everyone.

Both totally different companies (iv'e personally never tried UnitedHosting).

The UH in UH-Hosting stands for "Unique Hardware", which is the name of the parent company, http://www.unique-hardware.co.uk/

Anyway, thanks for the compliments, 777, I have some more hosts I may review in the future, but for now I thought i'd just review my two favourites

That might be because his account is disabled

In that case I might be fairly disappointed if I was UH-someone!
Of course, if there's some agreement no problem, but if there isn't, I don't know.
They are definetely confusing, it can't be just me!

15 minutes downtime in two months is not 99.8%. It's more like 99.98%.

I still work it out at 'around' 99.8%

Please correct me if I've done something wrong.

    100% of two months = ~89280 minutes
    1% of two months = ~892 minutes
    0.1% of two months = ~8.92 minutes

    8.92 minutes * 2 = 17.84 minutes (close to my 15 minute mark).

So that would be 0.2% downtime, or 99.8% uptime.

    >That means hosts claiming to have 99.9% uptime can only have around 8 minutes down per month.<

  16. #16
    so it would be 99.98%... the two 8.92 = 0.1% x 2

    1% of two months = ~892 minutes
    0.1% of two months = ~8.92 minutes

    Ah!

I just caught the mistake lol.

As 0.1% * 10 = 1%, I must of used the sum 0.1% * 100 = 1%. Lack of sleep and lack of caffine was probably the cause lol.

Anyway, sorry about the mistake, i'll edit the main review
