What is the difference in performance of the two servers

I am planning to rent a dedicated server from a hosting company. Most of my clients are very simple website with small bandwidth. I have two choices:
    Choice #1:
    Pentium 2.8 Ghz
    512 MB ram
    80 GB hard drive

    Choice #2:
    Pentium 2.8 Ghz
    1 GB ram
    120 GB hard drive

The major difference is the 512 MB ram. There will be about 1000 - 1500 hosting accounts in the server. What will you expect the difference in performance (speed, load, etc.) of the two servers.

My friends, it's nice to know that you are there when I need you.

It depends on what kind of CPU load the aggregate of the sites uses. For that many sites on a single machine, it probably be better to go with the machine with more RAM. - Offering Batch Image Processing and TIFF/PDF Software Solutions

RAM is key, and so long as you have at least a P4 class processor on a 533FSB you're going to be okay. The hard drives are irrelevant aside from overall storage, unless of course one of them is ATA100 and the other is ATA133, SATA, RAID etc.
