    Trading Hosting For Services

I'm curious to find out if you do trades (or barter) for services and if so, what types of services are most attractive? When I had a hosting company, we were lucky to find both a lawyer and accountant that was willing to trade. That came in very handy.

Companies would come here and say they do that, however I think that would be considered advertising.

For the hosts to say what kinds of services they wanted in exchange for hosting would be advertising?

Becuase other people read this other than you, and other people will see the "ad," and contact them also. You aren't supposed to post anything that 'even hints at advertising.' I wouldn't post here whether or not we do exchanging - I wouldn't risk it.

If some hosts decide to post, then they will be dealt with accordingly. I was just stating, I wouldn't post any 'exchange deals' on here - You can get in trouble for too much stuff around here.

I will say this, I would imagine that alot of hosts do it.

Whether G2H does it or not, and what the deals may be, I will not say.

But like I said, I would bet money that almost every host does it.

Thats actually a really good idea if you can find people willing to do it.

I would say that bartering for services is a good idea. Sometimes the value of the services traded is alot more than each party would be willing to pay out in $$.

yeah but what if the services being exchanged are the following:

like say I had hosting to offer - could I then say 'help me make a website' and you get free hosting? (I know this is all meant for another forum, if thats what you guys are talking about)

Yeah but if you're bartering services like web hosting for web design, I would like to think the host isn't going to really limit the designers site to like 100 meg space or 1 gig traffic. It should give peace of mind to the designer not to have to worry about resources.

In most cases though, I would think that the host gets the better end of the deal.

One thing you should consider is that legally when you barter you are supposed to report and pay taxes on the market value of the service that you are recieving. Alot of people don't do this since its very difficult to track but it is something you should be aware of.

nothing to apologize for. you asked a simple question and some people didnt understand it.

your post doesnt look anything like advertising at all.

I don't think this is advertising but if it is I guess I'll be 'dealt with' lol

Anyway - I have traded hosting and design for some services from local companies. I actually wish more would be willing to do it

I have never really had too many "trade" deals work out.
Seems like whenever "trades" come up, signed agreements
and standard procedures fly out the window.

In my experience, it's better to pay for the work and
have people be accountable vs. hoping you come out
ahead based on the items you are giving up ..

There is just not much scalability in trading, that is
why I am against it I suppose.
