A 1Mhz + 64KB Commodore 64 could be a web server. The question is what is your load? 5 static pages a day? Use the C64. 1000 requests/minute against a PHP based site with MySQL on the back? You might want something faster than a 1.2Ghz machine.

The real question is what is your expected load?

For a personal use this might be more than sufficient. It could work out for hosting service if you have few small websites. Since you have 1 GB RAM it can handle closer to 50-00 acounts. you might want stay away from cgi intenssive sites like cgi based forums and all.. You have to start somewhere.. Good luck.

It's good for a web server, just don't overload it and you'll be fine. By overloading I mean putting more and more sites when it already shows signs of lagging pretty often. Commands such as 'top', 'ps', 'vmstat' are your friends. They will show you where you are at with your server. Good luck!

Phpdeveloper, why do you use google ads on your site that display your competitors?

Its quite easy to use 900GB of bandwidth, especially if you 20-30k hits a day.

I am not afraid of this competition (slightly different niches), and the ads are a good page filler

It's entirely possible, and with certain types of usage even this Celeron box can easily push that much and won't notice it
