    MySQL & server loads

    Hey guys,
Im thinking of creating a new project using our dedicated server. Its running Plesk 7, 1Gb RAM, Pentium 2.4GHz

The whole project will run from 1 mysql database. Im expecting the database to be pretty large at 10Mb at an early stage and blowing out to 100Mb when things get rockin'.

Lets say for example, the mysql database is hit with 100 queries per second, what sort of load will that put on the server?

Can mysql databases even get to 100Mb?

    Thanks,
    Jubbs

Depends on how your my.cnf is setup

MySQL 3.22 had a 4GB limit on table size. With MyISAM in newer versions the maximum table size is pushed up to 8 mil TB.

Yes, I am running two or three >100 MB DBs on a Celeron 2.4 server with 1 Gb RAM. No problems at all. What still causes problems is the regular account backup. :-(

Good info did not realize it could go up to 9 Million TB.

Make sure you optimize you my.conf, setup caching and other goodies, check out the different versions on my.conf small, medium, and large I believe?

I wouldn't have known this before I was talking to a friend about iPBFree.com and I found out that there database is currently between 3 - 4 GB in size, so yeah it is possible.

I have a couple of 500MB+ databases on one of my servers and the server loads do get quite high, despite the fact it's a dual xeon, but it's a combination of things really.

    Hi,

I am on a semi dedicated account(they say that they have 5-10 accounts on 1 xeon server), I have a table totally 2 MB consisting of 3000 records.

When 25-30 select one records (select row1,row2.. from table where ID=parametreID) query hits, they suspend my account..
    How about that?

I wonder the same question too, If I buy a beginner dedicated account, may I serve 10-20 times more users?

Will a celeron2.0 with 512 mb ram can handle 500 select out of one queries per second to a table such that?

The problem is not a big table, an average size table but lots of selects per second...

    Thank you...

    Is that "jubbs" from VHA?

If so, your my.cnf should already be optimised.

Put in a ticket so one of our admins can take a look at your my.cnf config - just to be sure.

Glad to see you found WHT. Took you long enough.
