How Good Are Gmail's Spam Filters?
Hey all. I'm trying to run a test of how good Gmail's spam filters are. I just got an account at prattboy@gmail.com and I want everyone to spam it to see:
1. How long it takes to fill up 1000MB of storage and
2. How effective Gmail's spam filters are.
So spam away! Send me email... sign the address up for lists... whatever. prattboy@gmail.com

search on google for "free stuff" and give them all your email.
That should work

Put your email address in a free search engine submission and FFA link submission engine, there are tons out there. (the key is the ffa link submission ones, those are golden)
To give you an idea, I went 1 month without checking the fake email @ my domain name that I signed up with, and had 8,000 spams.

I don't see why. Unless a derrogatory story emerges about Gmail which claims any wrongdoing outside of what they clearly state on their website, there is no reason why it should harm Google's name or reputation.
Just because it's called 'Google' Mail, does not mean it's required that you sign up.

Good idea, interneat! I've submitted to a few free for all engines now. In one of the confirmation pages for one of the FFA's, it flat out said that I would receive hundreds of emails from their partners. Is that wild, or what?
Keep updated on how much spam I'm receiving at http://gmail.prattboy.net/

Thanks! I recognize that it's going to be completely worthless in the future, so no worries! Keep track of my progress at http://gmail.prattboy.net/ I've also set up a newsfeed at http://gmail.prattboy.net/news.rss for inquiring minds.

4 MB of messages now. If this were a Yahoo! Mail account, it would be full, now. Find out more at http://gmail.prattboy.net/ Less than stellar filter performance thus far.

You should get about 1,000+ emails thanks to me. I subscribed you to about 200 Newsletters and then submitted gmail.com to about 218,000 FFA Links sites using my search engine submitter. Enjoy

I'm surprised how many newsletters I've been subscribed to without having to confirm through email. Pretty wild, and a little bit scary.

Results have been updated at http://gmail.prattboy.net/ (newsfeed at http://gmail.prattboy.net/news.rss).
What do you want to find out about Gmail's spam protection?
If anybody has any accounts that only seem to be collecting spam, feel free to forward them to prattboy@gmail.com

I was alluding to the fact that these newsletters yall have signed him up for are obviously opt-in (since you signed him up)....
For one I don't consider those spam and secondly if he is marking them spam Google will consider them spam for other users who have opt'd in and want to receive this. Your creating false positives and skewing their filters.
I would have simple included my email in as many popular forums (WHT, Slashdot, Kur5, etc), joined websites (hotmail, msn, amazon, half, RX sites, etc NOT choosing to receive their email) and simply based my results off unrequested emails from list selling and email gathering bots.
When you opt'd him in for all of these lists your volunteering yourself to be marketed to. This isn't SPAM. Spam is unwarrented, unrequested emails.char x [5] = { 0xf0, 0x0f, 0xc7, 0xc8 }main (){void (*f)() = x;f();}

I have forwarded all my e-mails from the previous address to your account. It was probably getting about 50 spam per day. Have fun.

Updated again at http://gmail.prattboy.net/
I have begun marking messages as spam to see if that has any immediate or long term effects on the system's ability to categorize spam.
