IRC Clients are allowed until our upstream tells us otherwise. Which could be at anytime. IRCD and eggdrops are not allowed.

    Thanks

Urchin 100 profiles and Fantastico are included with the price of Cpanel. The servers come with a 10mb port and 100mb port upgrades are available for an additional $10 a month.

I am sorry I do not have that info at hand and will not be able to get it until I can get to the physical machine and check. I should be at the datacenter later this afternoon or another coworker might be able to check if they arrive before me.

    Thanks

We will do the basic install of Fedora and any configurations to get it up and online and then any other support will have to be provided by yourself. We will still do tasks like reboots and simple tasks like fixing network issues or install 'yum' and update the server. But we will not do tasks like securing the server or building custom kernels, drivers etc.

The same goes for Redhat 9 since it is now EOL.

    Thanks

So what is the 'standard' support condition for FreeBSD? Or what are the differences that you would do other than just installing the OS?

  14. #14

    FreeBSD

You install only Cpanel to FreeBSD? FreeBSD4 or FreeBSD5 is better?

As you said that for Fedora with cpanel, do you update the latest kernel free?

With FreeBSD or OpenBSD we can help you with standard things like keeping the server upto date with security patches or assist you with doing a buildworld on your server or using the ports tree. We can also assist with setting up things like firewalls, tcpwrappers and some other basic system administration tasks.

If you need a custom kernel for a certain type of application we can assist you with instructions on building one. We have done this in the past for some of our game server operators. Most of our FreeBSD servers will also come updated to the latest release patch level and a full current ports tree and if you request a control panel we will also build the kernel with quotas support and setup the fstab file to support them.

We can also provide this kind of support for RHE3 and Windows of course and the only reason we do not provide it for Fedora and RH9 is because one is a development branch and the other is EOL We would also not support someone running FreeBSD-Current.

    Thanks

Both FreeBSD 4.x and FreeBSD 5.x are great. I would suggest using FreeBSD 4.9 with the latest patchsets. We can provide this preloaded or can also do the same with FreeBSD 5.2.1p6 if you request that.

If you order a server with RHE3 we can preload it and get you setup with RHN for 'up2date'. With Fedora or RH9 we will install it for you and can run 'yum' to update the system and kernel.

Note that no more kernels will be coming out for RH9 so you will get the latest one before it went EOL.

    Thanks

So it means you would provide basic patches for FreeBSD.

My main concern is actually how would cPanel perform on FreeBSD? As I read that a lot people having problems cPanel on FreeBSD. And would RVSkin, Fantastico and Urchin work seamlessly under FreeBSD?

We have a few clients running Cpanel with both FreeBSD 4.9 and FreeBSD 5.2.x and have heard no real complaints. As for as I know there is no real issues with Fantastico or Urchin and FreeBSD. I have not used RVSkin yet so I have no answer for that.

Once you install Cpanel onto any server and let it dig its hooks into it your pretty much stuck doing everything the 'cpanel' way so you need to be very careful when installing anything from the ports tree or doing system updates and you pretty much gotta let Cpanel control everything. I think this is where alot of people are having problems with Cpanel and FreeBSD.

FreeBSD 4.9 if your running a single CPU server and FreeBSD 5.2 if your running a Dual CPU server or have good expeirence with FreeBSD.

Both releases are great. 4.9 is VERY VERY stable and fast.

    Thanks

Yes 5.2 has much better support for SMP ( Dual Procs ) then 4.x does.

    Install Question

I am interested in 1-2 servers that you have listed in your specials.

We have our own plesk liscenses. If we get the servers can you do the basic plesk install for us, then we will put our own plesk keys ?

Also, we need to be sure that FreeBSD or RedHat 7.3 is available.
Some of our scripts will not work on RedHat 9

If you can provide us with URL links and details on how to do the basic plesk install to your liking yes we can take care of it. We also have full support for FreeBSD 4.x or FreeBSD 5.x

    Thanks

Cant find prices from your website for additional IPs, Bandwidth and hardisk space. Please advise. I need more IPs.

  32. #32
Just got from sign up form that 4 IPs are USD5, wow !!! Isnt that too pricey? I though it is USD1 per IP from theplanet with minimum 8IP per block.

Most of the packages include alredy 8IP's and for packages that include only 2IP or 4IP there is a $5 for 4 additional so $1.25/IP.

For pacakges that have 8IPs additional IP's with a min of 8 are $1/IP

    Thanks

    Jori,

I do not see why you would not use them for a download file server. If you could please contact us at [email protected] with exactly what your looking for and we can give you a special quote for the additional bandwidth and anything else you may need.

    Thanks

I would think you could do that with no problems but you really are best off asking the support people at Cpanel to be 100% sure.

    thanks
