I use Spinbox (hosted solution), though as a backup, I also have AdvertPro (http://advertpro.com) around, just in case. Both are excellent.

Thumbs up WebAdverts

I'm also using WebAdverts. It seemed like the best priced package with the options I wanted. Plus, I'm a sucker for shareware. It makes me feel trusted.

That reminds me, I need to send out that check... doh!

I've tried both WebAdverts and AdCycle.

WebAdverts offers alot of easy to use features. One of the reasons why I stick with WA is it allows you to input many different banners for the same account which the script randomly picks and displays.

From briefly trying AdCycle, it did not offer this feature.

Also, AdCycle lacks details in documentation on installation, usage, etc.

But, AdCycle did run more smoothly.

My 2¢

GeorgeC,

WHy do you just use advertpro as a backup? I mean that thing costs quite a bit.

Has anyone ever used Centralad.com?

I don't understand why some of these banner scripts are so expensive then theres others that are free. Is there really that big of a difference?

I dont think theres a live demo but if you read through the docs, youll get an idea what the script can do.

The script is also being developed constantly and the author answers questions in the sourceforge forums pretty quickly. I think he also takes requests when it comes to additional features.

If you have your own server try oasis (can also be found from sourceforge). This is for heavy duty banner rotation. Both are free btw.

I have used both Webadverts and phpads. I preferr the control panel and setup of webadverts, but because it uses cgi scripts, it is very resource intensive when the besite becomes the slight bit busy. phpads is not as nearly so resource intensive, becasue it uses php and mysql instead of cgi.

I have seen my server load go well over 4 when it became moderately busy with webadverts. The same traffic with phpads only takes it slightly above 1.

Talking Help

I was just wondering if anybody knows of a banner rotation script that will take care of 1 million hits a day and will not run up a load on my server?

Wink Fast! AdCycle

If I can suggest Fast! Adcycle:

http://wholesomesoft.com/fastadcycle/

It began its life as a modified version of the freeware AdCycle, which is not available anymore. Fast! Adcycle however remains free and you can download and install it free of charge.

It's been running on several high traffic sites (more than 30 mil impressions per month) without sweating, because it uses Fast CGI. Fast! AdCycle also has some other additional features. Please see the homepage for details.

SepsisNet: AdCycle does support multiple banner per campaign.

I admit that documentation is one weakness of AdCycle, since it is not a commercial product. I'd like to work on that for Fast! AdCycle, but it is not my priority at the moment. But, btw, if you have any question on Fast! AdCycle, I'd be glad to help. Just contact me at steven@wholesomesoft.com .

Regards,
Steve
