Hey the domain I caught at pool.com used to have 86,500 rank at alexa.com at 2 years ago, theres also 150 links in google to the site.. Its not getting that much traffic now but I'm hoping to develop and bring the site to its former glory.. Baiscally I need to know if 86'500 at alexa.com is classed as good and could anyone explain to me if this was significant?
easlly cheated? I suppose if its just counting hits then this can easyly be done to clicking the refresh button on your browser... If its unique visits it counts then this would be pritty much impossible?
I agree with Othello. I had a certain site that got down to 79500'ish in alexa rankings and it did crap all in getting REAL traffic. I reckon at its peak it was getting around 350 uniques a month and that was a good month.
I couldnt explain it other than the fact I had the alexa toolbar and I had set up this site as my home page and clicked on each link in the site every day for about a month and this I beleive is what ultimately was bringing the rating down.
If I could do this with one computer and not really trying or doing anything dishonest, imagine what else was happening out there. Especially some of the rubbish being spread and sold on places like ebay. I could have sold that website for $5000 odd at the time. I couldnt live with myself.
Maybe the algorithms alexa use now have changed a bit hopefully.
its a spywar in there tool bar that gets the info and the way to cheat is use a programe with multi proxy built into it and there are like 3 programes around and are not FREE that can do that
you just select how many visitors you want it to send per hour and it will use all 1000 proxy or more built into it and visite your site.
the garenty that you will have higher ranking in a week or so.
thats why i dont trust alexa and from personal experiance my logs says i had 100,000 visitors per day which is normal but when i check alexa i see i am getting higher ranking then days ago and some times lower when infact i have the same amount of users but my guess i have less amount of users with there tool bar.
get it ?

i think they measure from the traffic going to that website, but again how
It's *not* that clever/interesting/sinister
PR and the formulae has been published many places - its to do with links etc at a fixed point in time - interesting but ultimately futile - based on the principle that the more "authoritive" you are about a subject the moer people will link to you about it
ok if the web wasn't used commercially, and too easy to fake - hence the multitude of content-less sh!te network sites of 300 domains of links to each other, and anoth reaon you get 1000 [email protected] a day asking/offing links etc

is essentially the same as saying ...
Hey the house I bought at a property liquidation auction used to have someone who was 86,500 rank in the rich-list at 2 years ago, theres also 150 people who know the address.. Almost no-one comes to visit now
You be the judge
If the domainis what you wanted - well done
If the domain was bought because of "alexa" rating - you've been conned
If the domain has some google links back to it - so what , your *new* content will take far more precedence than anything else
yes the End because i dont want these programes to gain more customers
plus these programes will overload your web server . its like your flooding your owen server with hits that will only add more ranking and at the end your only fooling your self.
work hard and honestly and you will get better ranking in time.
just dont give up so easy and keep UPDATEing your conetent
othellotech what your saying is not quiet the same visiting websites and visitng houses are for totally diffretn reasons.... If you seen websites in the same way as a product you will see that links are a form of advertising and basically the more the better... and also the more links you have the better googlebot will want to put you higher in a search...
alexa is just one indication that a name *may* still have some traffic, just like if you saw a girl with a CK t-shirt she *may* be rich.
There is software about to pump rankings also, like alexabooster.com. If someone is selling you a name based on alexa ranking its very likely the traffic is low, otherwise they would just tell you the traffic stats. Same goes for overture or any other supposed "traffic proxies".
