    Computer in truck...

    Hey all!!

I want to build a computer in my truck so I can hold like a million songs. I don't know what hardware I should get for the system. I want to be able to turn it on and off with a toggle switch, if at all possible. Also, What OS should I use? What should I use for a display? I would like to use something like an LCD maybe... Thanks.

Wouldn't it be easier to get an mp3 player? I mean with all the hardware in your truck you would have to drive really carefully and if you went over a speedbump or anything, you risk destroying it.

Why dont you just use an ipod and wire it into your car audio system.
    Or better yet.. a laptop!

I have an Mp3 player in it. I've seen computers in cars before online and they looked pretty cool. You can build computers as small as a CD Rom drive theese days lol.

    [url]I got nothing/url]

For clarity's sake, don't use "<ip address of hostname>" use the ACTUAL 32-bit numeric IP address of the machine.

Indeed, the mother board is only just bigger than a can of coke, but the processor is built into the board so they cant be upgraded. 1ghz was the last one i built.

Yep, along with whatsitsname(cant remember the name of the software) but i know someone working on voice command software for the pc's. It will read out song info and playlists to him, and lower the volume when he wants to talk

Pick up a 5inch screen from ebay, means you can watch films too. And use a mouse rather than keypad.

Get a fairly fast shuttle PC with like 250 gb storage and stick it in your trunk, run wires through the ducts and up to the dash, then install a touchscreen LCD in the dash (http://wacom.com), get a wireless (802.11G) card and put it in the shuttle PC and get a attenna, stick that on the back of your truck, wire the PC to your car sound system, then drive around and tada, you have a pimped out wireless music playin truck.

    Am i missing something?
What does he need the wireless for?

And wouldnt it be cheaper to use an old laptop?

With a big hard drive attached via either usb or network.
