    Examining a process?

I'm getting a run away process on my server repeatedly, when I kill it it impedes my server's ability to connect to my mysql database. And when I kill it, another similar process seems to come along within 10 minutes and do the same thing.

I used "kill -9 PID" on this process once, which seemed to be a very bad idea since it brought down my exim, apache, and mysql.

Does anyone know of a way to get more information about a particular process, or is there not a way?
