    * Windows XP...

    Lol, okay, so we all know that Windows XP have poor security, but seeing this statement for the frist time really leaves me speechless...

    we left a series of clean Windows XP workstations hooked to a live, non-firewalled Internet connection. Over about a dozen iterations, the average time for this workstation to be compromised by something (a virus, Trojan, worm, spider, or whatever) was three hours. The fastest measured time was 20 minutes. Itˇ¦s not if theyˇ¦ll find your vulnerable points anymore, itˇ¦s only how fast.

    your point? This goes for Linux, Unix, Mac, any type of computer.

    The OS isn't what is insecure, it's that people don't take the time to download the updates and make the necessary changes to protect themselves and install proper programs.

    A fresh default install of a workstation (not a server)? Windows is a thousand times more likely to be cracked. With the others, it's varying degrees of possible. With Windows, it's guaranteed.

    Unix/Unix-like OS's are generally much more secure out of the box than windows.

    3rd party software shouldn't be required to make your system secure.

    That kinda makes me think a little bit.. If windows "WAS" the most secure OS out of the box, without 3rd party software, how many more people would jump on them saying they have even more of a Monopoly on the market? Also, would they be violating more Anti-Trust laws, by integrating a more secure setup, putting other companies out of business because those companies software would no longer be needed...
