Sadly I have found a rip of a layout I made for a client of mine a couple months back. I've emailed them asking them to take it down. Are there any other steps I should take or should I just wait and see? on the bright side that means my designs are improving, worthy for someone to rip.. heh.. Thanks in advance.
1. Figure out who is their host (WHOIS being a good place to start) and then send a message to them. Detail out the original site and then the copycat, and ask that they remove the content from the server.
2. (If option 1 fails) If the host is a reseller or on a dedicated server in a facility such as EV1Servers or ServerMatrix, e-mail the dedicated provider and ask that they take action.
You can do that at the command line or go to http://www.dnsstuff.com/ and use the Tracert tool. Enter the domain.com and see what comes up.
ex- For webhostingtalk.com you get:

It indicated that this server is hosted by rackspace.com (which it is).
If you have a lot of visitors you should make a hall of shame with (legal) offending but polite messages for the rippers and info about the specific rips for your regular visitors. Usually helps pretty quickly.
in my view, i dont actually think you can stop rippers.... if you put something on the web, then its vunerable to any user.. just like music and software, there is not really a way to stop it.... sorry

I also feel the same way, but at least I want to try to persuade them into taking the design offline since it is unfair for my clients which I promised that it would be an exclusive design.
