I sometimes receive dedicated server offers from Chineses, but have no idea why they send them to me

Just ignore then block that email addresses

Hold on before you report that one. I know this guy and they are just down the road from me. Spamming is not something that I think that these guys would do. His username is grace5 on these forums.

Send him an email or PM him to have him address this thread. I'm sure there is an explanation. My opinion is that 1ahosting and Chris have been around long enough to know better and wouldn't resort to unsolicted marketing. It's very possible someone just tried to enter their email address on their site and mistyped it.

    Thanks Coach,

This is why I put it here. Something just seems weird.

I will say that there was NO typo in the email, it isnt possible at all.

Maybe a competitor is trying to get them in trouble? But how would that person get my personal ISP email address. That is odd.

Ill PM him here and thanks

A competitor doing this would be called a "joe job" and it does happen unfortunately. I see one or two things which gives me some information about the email from what you posted, however I'd prefer to let him address this first before I say anything.

This just happened to us. A competitor signed up a hosting account with us and then sent spam using sales[@]totalchoicehosting.com from our servers in a attempt to put TCH in hot water. We caught the person in the act. They left a trail of clues leading us right back to a server hosted on their network. The file listing on this server included the emailer.php file, the exact text of the email, and the email lists used.

I personally reported the incident to the owner of the hosting company however to this date they have not taken any action.

I will say also, this host is on WHT. So I am sure he will read this.

Well *********.net is a site where you can request hosting offers. Probably someone has requested hosting info with your email address.

By the way don't write their name with 0 because WHT gave me 15 punishment points for writing it... That's really ****ed, isn't it ?? Well I'll better be quiet before they kick me out for telling my oppinion (which is a horrible crime as we all know).

well, im going to get to the bottom of this.

i want to know what is going on.

this industry doesnt need this kind of garbage.

just the fact that this other company is banned here should be telling this person not to be using them.

on the other hand, i want to make sure that this company actually provided the lead and where it came from.

    Greetings,

My name is Boris Mordkovich and I represent the HV Request-A-Quote service.

As you may know, the way our company operates is that people interested in hosting quotes submit a request on our website listing their needs and budget and they get quotes from our advertisers that can match their requirements.

Unfortunately, it looks as if somebody has abused the system by submitting a lead with your eMail. I do apologize for the inconvinience and we will take measures to prevent this from happening again.

In the near future, we will require all submissions to be confirmed via eMail through a special link, so that this would not happen again.

As for 1Ahosting.com - they are one of our clients and the only reason they would contact you would be if they received a lead with your eMail listed in it. They should not be held accountable for this.

If you have any further questions, I would be more than glad to respond to them via AIM (HVoiceRep) or eMail.

ok, i just got word that there was in fact NO request made thru this HV company.

i am severely pissed off about this. i am pissed in a BAD way.

the thing that made me the most suspicious was the crappy PM chris sent me when i first alerted him of this.

i was told that chris was going to come here and make an announcement.

you know what chris, save your breath, i dont want to hear it. dont even go there, ill not be nice about it. believe me, youd be wiser not to say anything at all.

    youre busted, period.

i NEVER used that company and the email you sent clearly had thier company info in it, perhaps as an attempt to blame any spamming on them. if i were HV i would dump you in a minute, they do not need to be taking the heat for this kind of garbage.

chris, ive done some digging on your "methods of advertising" (to put it nicely) and THAT is why none of this surprises me at all.

again, i am MADDER than hell about this.

Yes the mistake was ours and not HV,we unknowly had added your email address to a list of leads obtained from HV.(after search our database of leads we could not find yours and then found our error)

So how did we get your very private email address?

    From you.

You send us a PM (which is still in my PM box here at WHT) requesting us to contact you which we did and we also have your
email sent to us requesting us to contact you about resellers hosting, and also gave us your AIM contact.there was another contact after that but we have deleted the email.

We are sorry for a mistake made.

chris ive had a vps at dinix since DECEMBER

why would i contact YOU for reseller hosting?

how old is this supposed PM you are referring to?

why would you go thru all the trouble of adding HVs company info in the email subject and in the email to me?

please do me a favor, since your unsubscribe page doesnt work, UNSUBSCRIBE ME!

oh and thanks for getting back to me... what, 6 months later?

IMO you are getting way to worked up over this. If I got this worked up over spam, whether accidental or not, it would have to become my full time job. What more do you want from them? They apoogized and accepted the blame. Mistakes happen.

    1. i am worked up over this. the whole sneakiness of it.

    2. this is obviously no accident, as you can see, he clearly tried to place the blame on the other guy, causing the other guy to do a lot of unnecessary work.

    3. apologized? oh, i guess that makes it ok. when a competitor spams you for a service you dont need, maybe he is spamming your clients too?

    4. if you think this was a "mistake" (him adding the other companys name to both the subject line and the footer of the email) then i dont know what to tell you!

    5. id like to know if everyone else here finds this to be an acceptable business practice.
