Best way to start out is a reseller account, get bigger from there, market is oversaturated, be ready to dedicate to it, hard work..

Hard work is an under-statement. I can honestly say if you are not 100% dedicated, you will not survive.
It's a great industry to get into, but if you think your gonna throw up a webpage, and start making massive amounts of money, then your looking at the wrong industry.
It's very hard work, but extremely worthwhile if you love the industry.

There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes. You need staff that is extremely competent with what OS you decide to use or else your clients data is at risk.
Do what someone suggested and look into starting either a reseller account if you are limited on clients or look into a dedicated server if you are already rounding up clientele.
It is a lot more than just buying a few servers and setting them up in your living room on a t1 line. Smaller hosting companies rent physical servers from data centers that are on major routes.
You can get away with hosting a few accounts on a cable line from your home, but if you are looking at making money as a business and offereing fast, secure service for your clients, then you need to know what you are doing.

??
can you give the URL of a site or two that are hosted from someone's home on a cable line? I would really like to see that. Honestly though, are there some? Please post a URL here, I am truly curious to see how that would work. This is not intended to sound mean spirited at all, I just find it hard to believe this would work, and would love to see a site as an example of this..
Thanks.

I have a building for my business, a former warehouse/ manufacting building not in my house. I hate taking work home! I just wanted to know your opinions on the hardware and software. I've seen the Windows SQL joints and some say dell servers are good but which one? No descriptions you know? Help a sista out, then I can say you helped me in my thousand dollar success! LOL

Hehe. If you've only got a 1-2 Mbit connection, I really see no need for anything more than a 500 MHz P3 with 256 MB RAM that you can find on Ebay relatively easily. (Be sure you go with a "server". From my understanding, server hardware is specifically designed for reliability.)
I would recommend using Linux or one of it's relatives. Fedora Linux or RedHat Pro might work well for you. (I wouldn't recommend standard RedHat, since you won't have updates).
Have Fun!
