    Windows IP Filtering: Secure?

    Hello,

I am sick of hardware firewalls with bad performance or pricey tags...
How secure is Windows IP Filtering? Would this block threats from worms that attack RPC? How low-level does the blocking occur, and is the performance good?

PS Any suggestions on a low-cost, high performace router would be great also.

IP filtering works very well as long as u dont lock yourself out of the server when setting it up!

It basically closes the port on the NIC so when probed they are closed/stealth.

Personally i would still run a software firewall on the server like blackice as a backup to filter the open ports.

    Hope this helps

thanks for the help... wow tcp filtering seems powerful... blocks at the kernel level, even before any software firewall.
