I've been with Fastservers.net for about 3 months now and I must relate my experiences.
I've wanted to go with them for almost a year, but the price was just beyond my reach. In other words, my wife'd kill me if I signed up. I settled on managing my own box with other providers for the past three years. It was not easy but I got by - just barely. When my box got hacked I was of course up the creek without a paddle.
A few months ago, after dealing with a particularly frustrating experience with my previous provider, I started looking for another server. Over the course of a month or so I checked out lots of bargain providers, and read the appropriate threads on WHT. A couple of the firms looked promising, but I kept getting drawn back to the Fastservers site.
Then, one day, lo and behold, Fastservers had a few bargain boxes available - with a price I could afford (err, umm, that I could convince my wife). In spite of the fact that about a year before I had exchanged manuy emails with Aaron Philips, I [again] experienced a completely unreal (awesome) pre-sales experience. Aaron filled me in completely on what I'd be getting with Fastservers, what support was like, and a lot of other useful information. I eventually signed up for one of the bargain boxes with Red Hat 9 installed. Of course being sore afraid of my wife, I got the box without cPanel - an extra $20 which I didn't feel like justifying to my little cherry blossom.
I actually did alright and succeeded in getting all my software installed by myself. But then, about one or two weeks later, I saw that Fastservers was now offering Fedora as their standard [low-end] Linux OS. I asked Aaron how much it would cost to do the upgrade since I figured it made sense to get it done early on before my box was all configured and set up. I also wanted to keep up with security issues. Aaron said that since I had just signed up for the box he'd have a reinstall done for me, and he wanted me to have a good hosting experience. Wow! I'd have to reinstall all the software again, but what the hey! Of course, the install was still withouth cPanel.
Well, ya know something, it wasn't so easy to install my software on Fedora. After almost a month of pulling my hair out trying to get everything installed, my wife couldn't stand it anymore. I was miserable, on edge, and was ready to just forget the whole thing. "Pay 'em", she yelled. "Anything they want, just pay 'em. I can't stand it any more!" So I sent Aaron an email asking him how much it would cost to have one of his crack techies just finish the job for me. Aaron offered to have ANOTHER reinstall done for free - but this time with cPanel. I would have to pay an extra $20 per month for cPanel, but at least my wife would let me back into the house.
Unbelievable - Fastservers did three (count 'em, three) OS installs for me. To fully appreciate this, you have to really understand that they did two FREE reinstalls. At least one was due to my own incompetence/inexperience/pigheadedness (whichever you prefer).
My Fastservers box is incredible! And Fastservers support is even better! I wish that I had the budget to get a bigger, faster, more manly server from them, but for now, I'm happier than a pig in feces. cPanel has made my life (and my family's life) so much better. I can spend more time on my applications, while cPanel handles administrative chores for me. Other more meaty admim problem I deal with via the command line when needed.
One glitch occured after a cPanel update. It seems that for some reason it broke the Apache path and my sites went down. Tech support quickly identified the problem (a cPanel update bug) after I posted a support ticket. After it was fixed they even set up an http monitor so that if it does happen again they'll know about it before me.
Fastservers has an 800 number for tech support. Not just in the States but in many countries, including Israel where I live. I've called a couple times, but I always use the ticket support system. Response time is within a few minutes and it's just as easy to file a ticket as it is to call an 800 number.
Thanks Aaron. Top-notch pre-sales which continued well after post-sales. Thanks to the Fastservers tech support staff - fast response time, extremely helpful, always there. Thanks Fastsersvers. As Aaron promised, I'm having a VERY good hosting experience - Finally, for the first time in about 5 years of various web hosts and server providers.
Glad to see you are happy Abu Mami, FastServers seems like a good fit for you.

Good stuff! It is an endless battle trying to think up creative ways to 'justify' all the toys we gather to our "better half"
